Manila, Philippines – Four police officers, member of the Intelligence Section of Manila Police District Police Station 9, were arrested on Friday night in a joint operation by operatives from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Counter Intelligence Task Force (CITF) members.
The officers, identified as SPO3 Ranny Litonjoa Dionisio, PO3 Richard Osorio Bernal, PO1 Elequiel Jeric Fernandez, and PO1 Arjay Lastricia Lasap.
The entrapment stemmed from the complaint of an Egyptian national who was allegedly arrested on April 9, 2018 for alleged violation of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act by more or less 10 personnel.
The Egyptian, who was not identified in the initial police report, was then allegedly required by his arresting officers to pay P200,000 so that he would not to be charged.
The demand was later reduced to P50,000 of which a check was issued.
Both parties agreed to meet on Friday. The CITF and NBI team arranged an entrapment operation and arrested the suspects.
The PNP officials who were arrested are in the custody of the NBI for disposition and filing of appropriate cases. A follow up operation is being conducted to identify the other PNP officials involved.
