Magnitude-5.4 quake strikes east of Cagayan

Manila, Philippines – A magnitude-5.4 earthquake struck 39 kilometers east of Gonzaga, Cagayan early Monday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

The quake struck at 3:43 a.m., was tectonic in origin, and had a 23-kilometer depth of focus.

The tremor was measured at an Instrumental Intensity I in Santiago City, Isabela; and Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

Though no damage was expected from the quake, aftershocks were expected.
